show day

well, i think the chicken pox are finally on their way out. samuel has been smiling again and it is so lovely to see after his sad little face all week. phil and i got about 7 hours of continuous sleep last night, and we all enjoyed some time at the playground this morning, warm sun, a happy boy and calm parents! bliss! so things are looking up!

today is the day of the ‘annual garden club show’ in the village. you don’t have to belong to the club to enter the show and two years ago i entered a quilt, a jam and a chutney (i got a third prize for the chutney and a second for the quilt!). i felt very ‘villagey’! the display of entries was beautiful; lots of flowers, fruit, veg, handcrafts, photos and children’s entries of animals and people made from fruit/veg or miniature gardens. last year we were a bit busy with our teeny baby to enter anything, but this year we’ve put in a few things. phil’s entered a photo (the theme was ‘water’:

and i’ve put in a jam, a chutney, my shawl and the socks i finished just this week!

i don’t expect to win anything, (although i have high hopes for phil’s photo!) but there’s a really nice sense of community being part of it, and as i used to teach at the village school, i always bump into a number of families i know, which is lovely. we’ll go back this afternoon to see all the entries and whether we won anything!

other things i would have blogged about if samuel hadn’t been ill this week are…

phil and samuel taking a stroll

samuel’s little chair (which was mine when i was little!)

and his new keyboard!

some new cashmere, of which i have 4 matching skeins!

my new project using said yarn (which i shouldn’t have cast on as i have so many things to finish, but i couldn’t resist the yarn any longer!) and some little helper hands!
