all sorts

yesterday we met up with phil’s brother’s family while they were overnighting in at a nearby campsite. as you can see samuel made the most of the space…

and i enjoyed some knitting time…

look at the concentration on all our faces! my niece is learning to knit and her mum’s learning along with her, so i was drafted in as an expert of sorts. i showed them my half knitted (after discovering a mistake and ripping the other half back on friday!) sock and my finished swallowtail shawl (below). it would have been a lovely way to pass the evening, but we had to head back for samuel’s bedtime after not long.

the swallowtail is knitted from a skein of merino/cashmere from skeinqueen. i ran out of yarn about a dozen stitches from the end of the cast off, but i used a cashmere in a bright pink which almost matched, so i don’t think it’ll show. whether the judges at the annual village show will notice, remains to be seen…! i think i’ll enter it anyway, seeing as i haven’t made any chutney this year.

this is samuel working his surfer look. i love this shirt/tshirt set which i bought last year in the sale. he’s only just growing into it, but there’s hopefully still plenty of warm weather left. today’s new word however, is ‘trousers’. pronounced ‘tss ses’. adorable.

lastly in today’s news, kirsty at that crafty fish has had a giveaway and i’m one of the winners! hurrah! pop over to her blog and her shops and you’ll see why i’m excited. she makes and sells gorgeous buttony, felty cheeriness and i can’t wait to see what arrives for me. i LOVE exciting post!
